Overview
BrightKids: Learning for Kids ("BrightKids", "we", "us" or "our") is an educational app for children aged 2 to 8, published by OfBuilder. Children learn through short lessons, quizzes and rewards in English, Bangla and Hindi.
BrightKids is designed to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian. There are no accounts and no sign-in. A grown-up check (a fingerprint or a simple sum) protects the parents' area and every purchase, so children can't change settings or buy anything on their own.
This policy explains what information exists when your family uses BrightKids, where it stays, and your choices.
Information kept on your device
BrightKids stores the following only on your phone or tablet, inside the app's private storage:
| What | Examples |
|---|---|
| Child profile | The first name or nickname you enter, and the buddy character your child picks. We don't ask for a surname, birth date, photo or contact details. |
| Learning progress | Stars, levels completed, right and wrong answers, questions to practise again, coins, stickers, badges and streaks. |
| Parent settings | App language, read-aloud, visible subjects, daily play-time limit, play breaks, bedtime hours and difficulty settings. |
| Play-time counters | Minutes played per day, used for limits and the weekly report. |
This information is never sent to us or to anyone else. We have also turned off Android's automatic app backup for BrightKids, so it isn't copied to cloud backups either.
Subscription information
BrightKids is free to start. BrightKids Pro is an optional subscription bought by a parent through Google Play. We use RevenueCat to check whether a subscription is active. Only when the app checks or makes a purchase, RevenueCat receives:
- a random, anonymous app user ID created by RevenueCat (not your name, email or your child's name);
- purchase records from Google Play: which plan, purchase and renewal dates, trial status and a purchase token;
- basic technical information needed to answer the request, such as app version, operating system version, device model, store country and language, and the IP address of the connection.
Payments are handled entirely by Google Play. We never see or store card numbers or other payment details. Your Google account details are governed by Google's privacy policy.
What we don't collect
- No advertising, no ad networks and no advertising ID.
- No analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools.
- No location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone access.
- No chat, messaging, social features or user-generated content shared with others.
- No accounts, email addresses or phone numbers.
Read-aloud & fingerprint
Read-aloud
Questions and lessons are read aloud by your device's own text-to-speech engine (for example Google's speech services). BrightKids prefers voices that work offline. If the only voice installed for a language is an online voice, the text being read is processed by that engine's provider under its own privacy policy. This text is lesson and question text, plus your child's nickname once, in the welcome greeting when a profile is created. You can turn read-aloud off in the parents' area.
Fingerprint unlock
The grown-up check can use your device's fingerprint or screen lock. This is handled entirely by your device's operating system. BrightKids only learns whether the check passed; it never receives fingerprint data.
How information is used
- On your device: to show your child's progress and rewards, apply your settings and limits, choose easier questions after mistakes, and build the weekly report.
- Subscription information: only to unlock Pro, restore a subscription on a new device, and handle refunds, cancellations and legal or tax obligations.
We do not use any information for advertising, profiling or selling, and we do not sell or rent data to anyone.
Third-party services
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google Play | App download, payments and subscription management | policies.google.com/privacy |
| RevenueCat | Checking and restoring subscriptions | revenuecat.com/privacy |
| Your device's text-to-speech engine | Reading questions aloud (see section 05) | Your engine provider's policy, e.g. Google |
These providers process information only to deliver their service and may not use it for advertising to children.
Children's privacy (ages 2โ8)
BrightKids is directed to children aged 2โ8, and protecting them is the core of how the app is built. We follow the principles of the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU and UK GDPR rules for children, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and Google Play's Families Policy:
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The nickname and progress a parent sets up stay on the device and never reach us.
- No ads, no tracking and no third-party analytics are included in the app.
- Children can't buy anything or change settings: purchases and the parents' area are behind a grown-up check.
- No links that take children out of the app. The only external link ("Manage subscription", which opens Google Play) is inside the protected parents' area.
- No chat or social features, so children can't share information with others.
If you believe a child's personal information has reached us in any way, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Data retention & deletion
- On-device information stays until you delete it. Uninstalling BrightKids, or clearing its storage (Settings โ Apps โ BrightKids โ Storage โ Clear data), removes all profiles, progress and settings permanently.
- Subscription records are kept by Google Play and RevenueCat for as long as needed to manage your subscription and to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
Data security
On-device information lives in the app's private storage, which other apps can't read. Communication with Google Play and RevenueCat is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure, but because almost everything stays on your device, very little information ever leaves it.
Your rights & choices
- Review and delete: everything about your child is visible in the app and can be removed by uninstalling or clearing the app's storage.
- Read-aloud: can be switched off in the parents' area.
- Subscription: cancel anytime in Google Play (Account โ Payments & subscriptions), or from "Manage subscription" in the parents' area.
- Subscription records: to ask for access to or deletion of purchase records held by RevenueCat, email us your Google Play order number (it starts with "GPA.") and we will handle the request with RevenueCat.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, US states or India), you may have further rights; contact us and we'll help.
International transfers
Google and RevenueCat may process subscription information in the United States and other countries. They use legal safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for these transfers. Information kept on your device is not transferred anywhere.
Changes to this policy
If we change how BrightKids handles information, we will update this page and its effective date. If a change means collecting new information about children, we will ask for a parent's consent before it applies.
