Why We Built a UK Driving Theory Test App from Bangladesh

26 October 2026

As a developer, you often stumble into unexpected challenges. For us, it was that peculiar moment when I realized just how many people were failing their driving theory tests in the UK. Endless forums filled with frustrated candidates and a curiosity to help them sparked an idea. Why not create an app that could make this journey a bit easier? So, from Sylhet, Bangladesh, we set out to build a UK driving theory test app that could truly make a difference.

The Problem

The UK driving theory test can feel daunting, especially for first-time drivers. With over 1.5 million candidates taking the test each year, many simply aren't prepared for the DVSA practice questions or the hazard perception part of the test. Our goal was clear: create an app that not only helps users prepare for the theory test but also delivers crucial insights into the process.

Having experienced the test prep frustrations ourselves (yes, we all had our times with the dreaded theory test!), we knew we had to make learning engaging and effective. That’s how the UK driving theory test app came into being.

The Build / Story

Building this app was a wild ride, to say the least. Since our team in Sylhet is relatively small—just a handful of developers—we had to juggle multiple roles, from coding to content creation. We received invaluable insights from driving schools and real test takers in the UK, which helped us shape the app to meet real needs.

One genuine challenge I faced was sourcing content that accurately reflected the official DVSA questions and guidelines. I spent countless nights pouring through resources, piecing together what users would find useful. Honestly, I still remember the moment of pure exhaustion and frustration when I thought, “Is this worth it?” But hearing from our target users kept me going. We wanted to create something that could positively impact others’ learning experiences.

Key Features

Comprehensive DVSA Practice Questions We’ve curated a vast set of DVSA practice questions that mirror what you can expect on the actual test. Each question is designed to challenge and prepare users, providing rationales for correct answers to deepen understanding.

Hazard Perception App This feature allows users to practice and grasp the crucial skill of hazard perception. By exposing users to different scenarios, they can learn to identify potential dangers on the road—an essential component of the actual driving test.

User-Friendly Interface Navigating our app is a breeze. We prioritized a simple and intuitive design, ensuring that users can focus on learning without any digital distractions. Based on feedback, we've tailored the design to keep learning straightforward and efficient.

Progress Tracking Users can track their progress through various metrics. This way, aspiring drivers can see where they need to focus and repeat exercises as necessary, a small touch that can make a big difference in their study routine.

Real Numbers / Proof Since launching, our UK driving theory test app has garnered around 15,000 downloads. To put that in perspective, it’s truly exciting to see interest from not just the UK but also users from other countries who are keen on UK-based licenses. Our ratings hover around 4.5 stars, highlighting users' appreciation for the app and its efficacy in helping them prepare for their tests.

Closing

Looking ahead, we’re dedicated to continuously improving the app. Future updates will include more interactive features based on user feedback. It’s humbling to know that our small team in Sylhet is making a global impact, one question at a time. If you’re also working on something that seems a bit out there, remember it’s often the honest struggles that lead to the most rewarding projects.
