Failed the Life in the UK Test? Here's What to Do Next
29 October 2026
If you fail the Life in the UK test, you can book it again. You have to wait at least 7 days before your next attempt, and you pay the fee again each time.
Don't worry: it's common
The pass mark is 18 out of 24, so missing just 7 questions means a fail. Many people pass on their second try once they know where they went wrong.
What to do before your retake
- Think about which topics felt hardest: history dates, government, or traditions
- Re-read those chapters of the official handbook
- Practise questions by topic until you get them right every time
- Take full timed mock tests and aim for 20 or more out of 24 consistently
Book when you're ready
There's no limit on attempts, but each one costs money. It's worth waiting until you pass mock tests comfortably before booking again.
Check GOV.UK for the current rules and fee. Take a free mock test below to find your weak spots.
