How Hard Is the Einbürgerungstest?

The Einbürgerungstest is one of the more manageable citizenship tests, because every possible question is published in advance. If you practise the official question catalogue, you can walk in knowing what to expect.

Why it's very passable

• You need just 17 correct answers out of 33
• You get 60 minutes, which is plenty of time
• All questions come from an official catalogue of 310: 300 general questions and 10 for each federal state

What makes it tricky

• The questions are in German, so reading carefully matters
• Some answer options look very similar
• You need to learn the questions for your own state too

How to prepare

• Practise the general questions topic by topic
• Learn your state's 10 questions
• Take timed mock tests until you score 25 or more consistently
