How Long Should You Study for the Life in the UK Test?

27 October 2026

Most people need a few weeks of regular study to pass the Life in the UK test comfortably. The real answer is simple: study until you pass mock tests with room to spare.

A realistic timeline

  • 1 to 2 weeks: if you already know a lot about UK history and society
  • 2 to 4 weeks: for most people, studying a little every day
  • Longer: if English isn't your first language or you can only study occasionally

A simple plan

  • Week 1: read the handbook chapters and practise questions by topic
  • Week 2: focus on history dates, government and your weakest topics
  • Week 3: take a timed mock test every day and review every mistake

When are you ready?

The pass mark is 18 out of 24. Aim to score 20 or more consistently in mock tests before you book. That gives you a safety margin on the day.
