Einbürgerungstest 2026: 33 Questions, 17 to Pass
21 October 2026
The Einbürgerungstest is the knowledge test for German citizenship. The good news: every possible question is published in advance.
The format
You answer 33 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes. 30 questions are general questions about Germany, and 3 are about the federal state where you live.
The pass mark
You need 17 correct answers to pass.
Where the questions come from
The questions come from an official catalogue of 310: 300 general questions and 10 for each federal state. That means you can practise every question before the test.
How to prepare
- Learn the general questions topic by topic
- Don't forget the 10 questions for your own state
- Read each option carefully: some look very similar
- Take timed mock tests until you score 25 or more
Booking the test
You register at a test centre approved by the BAMF, often your local Volkshochschule. Bring your passport or ID card on the day.
